"Law & Sin (Continued)"

I.   Cosmic Ping Pong (7:13-25)
A.   A story about the human condition
1.   The law is good (7:12, 25)
2.   The law versus Christ thing is not a good vs. bad BUT rather a power vs. weak
3.   But it cannot help Gentiles
B.   Out sinful selves want to serve sin
1.   Sin is a cosmic power that overtakes us
2.   Only way out - to pass into the authority of the reign of Jesus Christ, who is stronger than sin
II.   Paul among Jews and Gentiles
A.   How can contingent, specific letters be universal?
B.   "Call rather than Conversion"
1.   Focus is on the task, not the experience - Christ gave Paul a new task: go to the Gentiles
2.   Gal. 1:13-16 Paul calls it a "call"
3.   Similar to OT prophets
4.   No sense of great failure before his "call"
5.   Eastern churches ignore element of failure in interpreting Paul
C.   Result - different perspective on law
