Shield The Children's Eyes: My Thoughts on Carrie Prejean (aka Miss California)
Carrie Prejean (aka Miss California) at the Miss USA Swimsuit CompetitionBy now I am pretty sure everyone has heard of Carrie Prejean - aka "Miss California" - aka "The Girl Who Got Figuratively Bitch Slapped by Perez Hilton Regarding Gay Marriage."

We did a show on it. CNN has covered it. MSNBC ridiculed it. FoxNews has offered her a job. And I hear her and James Dobson are dating. Ok, those last two might be made up (or ARE they?)

Yet nobody made the statement that I have been from the very beginning: Carrie Prejean is the reason nobody takes the anti-Gay Marriage movement seriously.

Carrie Prejean (aka Miss California) Panties and Semi-Nude Shoot
Carrie Prejean (aka Miss California) Another Hot Swimsuit Shoot
Before - did I mention before - TheDirty.com released this photo of a 17 18-year old Prejean modeling for some awesome panties, I had a conversation with my brother about how this Miss USA situation is a joke and perfectly illustrates the irrelevancy of the anti-Gay marriage movement.

Then when TheDirty.com released the photo to the right all I could think of was: YES!

Now I don't take any issue with the photo. Future wife: please use Carrie as "clothing" inspiration. But then again, I freely admit I am liberal when it comes to "modesty." I also know I am liberal when it comes to Gay Marriage (reference: this post).

But two questions come to the surface:

1.) Am I the only one who thinks her boobs were better before the implants?

2.) Why are the religious right "excited" to have her as a spokeswoman?

As stated before, I think gay marriage should be legal because we don't illegalize divorce and pornography. Two things that are equally as "Biblically morally wrong" as homosexuality. And the fact that we scream at the top of our lungs about one, and not the others, makes us worse than hypocrites, it makes us irrelevant. And not irrelevant in the trendy way hipster Churches talk about being relevant. I mean irrelevant in that nobody gives a damn what we have to say not just about homosexuality - but about anything.

But I tell you the real tragedy in this whole situation is that The Associated Baptist Press - yes The Associated Baptist Press - had the best article I have read on this issue. Not per se because I agree with the conclusion, but for at least questioning the absurdity of the situation.

And even after Prejean has come out and apologized for the shoot, saying she regrets doing it and won't do it again, I have to think: who cares? Why? Because this isn't about her. It is about us!

The Church's mission will not return to it's key mission of creating disciples of Jesus Christ until our interaction with the world we live in is a consistent one.

Gravatar.com You know the best thing I heard about this was Perez Hilton saying today on a phone interview (the quote may not be exact) but he said to the tune of:
It's not about the Bible or anything its something bigger than that its the USA and how we look at these issues.
I'm not a Bible expert but it's going to be hard to find anything "bigger" than the bible and it's message.

No, you are not alone in this. I don't understand this obsession with large breasts. Certainly there is a subset of men for whom large breasts are the ultimate turn-on, but there are also guys like myself who find average size or even small ones far more titillating.

Andy, you would think her boobs are better before the implants, since they are smaller. But, I will agree with you. Her implants look like two melons stuck on an ironing board.

2.) Why are the religious right "excited" to have her as a spokeswoman?

It's obvious- shes young, white and pretty.

No, you are not alone in this. I don't understand this obsession with large breasts.

Boy, I could write a novel on why men love big breasts..hahah!

Gravatar.com Cecily I loved your response to to why the religious right wants her as a spokeswoman. I would also add that is why Fox News wants her as a personality on their network.

Gravatar.com Andy- While I appreciate your willingness to encourage a frank dialogue about homosexuality, I find your tolerance a bit condescending. I would expect any reasonable person to accept gay marriage on legal grounds (even many strict constructionists do), but to simultaneously condemn it on biblical grounds smacks of the very intolerance that makes Christians less "relevant" as you say. You describe gay friends and acquaintances as regular people (imagine that) as if they somehow need to your blessing to feel normal. All the while you seem to tirelessly assert your own heterosexuality to prove that loving homosexuals (like Jesus did) doesn't make you gay (ya think?). While your willingness to separate church and state is indeed refreshing coming from within the religious community, you unfortuately do as much to belittle gays as you do support them. I agree that the church has done much to alienate homosexuals but wish that progessive believers like you and Allen would do more to prove that faith and homosexuality don't have to be mutually exclusive. Wouldn't that make your listeners batty?

If that is the case, then why isn't Gay Marriage legal?

I didn't mention gay friends or acquaintances at all. Where did you get that? I think you might be reading into this / projecting your own expierence into this.

Fine for you to disagree. I don't think it is condescending, but you are free to disagree. I am still going to defend the legalization of gay marriage.

It's just a matter of time.

You do so in other posts. Also, yes I am projecting my own experience into this (don't we all?) which is why I find it condescending.

Your support means a great deal, but unfortunately religious intolerance is the real issue here.

Again, thanks for providing this forum for honest discussion.

Gravatar.com Thanks again for your thoughtful response. While you may not have meant it this way, my point was that it's tiresome to be told that "hey, you're alright after all." Truth is, I never thought I wasn't (sadly, many are told otherwise by their religious institutions). I by no means wish to discourage your relative open-mindedness. However, I think I speak for many gays who have come resent being "tolerated" or even "accepted" by the religious community. Of course friendships can exist between people of differing opinons, but it's hurtful to think I have to "compromise" when I all want is to be equal. Congrats by the way on your and Allen's growth into syndication. It must be both exciting and stressful!

Description
Andy's blog aims to be like a Scrubs episode, mixed with a Chuck Klosterman column, centered around the topic of faith. It is open, honest, raw, and a little embarrassing. It is a place to discuss religion, politics, ministry, pop culture, and well, just life - especially focused on the time of life we call our 20s!

Andy is the Executive Producer of The Allen Hunt Show; a progressive (in the literal sense), talk radio show based in Atlanta, GA aimed at bringing faith back into the public discussion. Andy enjoys travel, aviation, web design, politics, friends, and faith. He holds that the secret to a full life is loving God and loving people - which he fails at constantly.

Andy grew up in Fort Wayne, IN. He now lives in Alpharetta, GA.

More information about Andy can be found at www.2timothy42.org or Andy's Facebook.

P.S. As has been mentioned on air, Andy is horrible at grammar and spelling. Please excuse any mistakes, trust me, he's sorry.
